I keep having nightmares where I trip down the aisle. And then when i wake up it's like, oh no, please don't let that happen, because if it did I would be so mortified, never mind the fact that I've known this guy since the third grade and he's seen me worse but....

...and then, I eat breakfast and well, it goes away, but then I start worrying what would happen if I was late or someone else was late or if it rained and...it's never ending!

I hate writing out invitations by hand. Thank goodness for electronics! Now all I need to do is send them off in time. And I have plenty of that. I mean, the thing's not until July! That's like...too far away to send them off now. Maybe next month, or June even. It's a tricky balance. Unless you send off two invitations which I should have probably thought of earlier. Duh. Now I'm going to do that. Except the the second invitations are going to be called reminders, so they won't really be invitations as such.

On another note? I should never, ever look at hollywood casting because they never get it right. Ever. They're almost as bad as some of the fans. Which I have yet to run into, but it's really only a matter of time.

Life is just sooo crazy right now. My sister bought me my dress for my big day already- she knows me so well it's not even funny, because I was actually thinking, oh no, she's gonna get a really frilly and over the top one, but she's already on the ball, and it's gorgeous! It'd be great though if my Mom stopped asking me if I'm going to wear a kimono for any of the ceremonies though.

I already told her I'm not doing it that way...but I guess she's just a traditionalist. I might just wear it for the afterparty to sort of compromise, but you can't really dance that well in kimonos. Least I don't think so.

So I actually have a date for my last day at the shrine, or at least an approximate time: June 7th. It's sort of sad because I really have enjoyed my time here, as I've said before, but it's time to start a new chapter in my life.

...That sounded so rehearsed, swear to god. Anyway, I'm not leaving the country until probably like, late July. Me and my fiance, funnily enough, haven't actually been to an Bon festival in Japan, and the July one is around the 15th so we figured hey, why not, might as well! I know one of my favorite parts of it is the floating lanterns at the end. Except we never could really do that at home, because they'd always tip into the water the minute we put them down.

How surreal it is that a year ago Sunday, something swept through Japan and changed it forever. So much so that parts of Fukushima prefecture is still a no go zone, and there's still so much debris to clean up. I think they said it was like, 20 million pounds or something. And they've only got six percent of it taken care of.

The shrine's holding a a memorial service on Sunday. Well, I don't think memorial service quite describes it, but I think it's the closest  thing. I don't know. You'd think I'd be better at this kind of thing. I'm barely learning to read Japanese now...  Romaji apparently doesn't count. Least not to some people I've talked to.

It's strange how you think people's perceptions of you will change when they find out something about you that you don't reveal to the world. And it's even stranger when they shrug their shoulders and put it in the back of their minds.  I was always told as a little kid that the nail that sticks out is the one that gets hammered down, but obviously? Not always true.

There are some days where everything works out and you feel so happy. And there are days that are like that, but only more, and you know there's more of them to come, but you have to work for it, but that doesn't lessen the affect...I had one of the second, in case you're wondering! Oh, and it was also a decision day, too. I love being here, and I love working in the shrine...but I've decided that it's going to be the best thing for me if I return home to San Francisco.

It was only a part time thing, but I'm always gonna remember my time here. And I might even come back on vacation one day!  Hopefully my parents won't be too upset with another decision I made...

Groundhog day is Thursday. Or rather, tomorrow. Cause, y'know,  time difference. And not that it matters anyway cause it's an American thing and I'm so not in America right now.  And it's kind of a funny holiday anyway, because wouldn't you know it, the Japanese calendar has Spring starting two days later anyway.   And then there's the big thing the day before which is another big Shrine day.

So I'm guessing that sort of implies that different areas of the world have different starts to Spring. Weird.

Nice weather we're having here. It's not supposed to rain until the end of the week.  I'm not really a fan of rain, but there are plants in the front garden that need watering and I always forget about them. I'm not the one that planted them- I would have just put down some fake ones or or a patio, but I guess some people like the flowers, eh?

Not gonna say it. Not gonna say it.

Whoever is responsible for making me and several other shrine maidens break out into singing a Morning Musume song- with the moves to match, no less- has some serious explaining to do. At least we had a good reason for it, it being "Coming of Age Day" and all.

Not that I don't love Christmas, but New Years is a much bigger holiday for me and my family. Always has been, always probably will. I gotta admit, this past year has been...interesting. There are some things I'd rather not repeat, and some things I'd rather re-do, but I guess that's the whole appeal about the New Year- doing it all over again.  Here's hoping that the world doesn't end in 2012, but we all know it won't. I think the Mayans or the whoevers just ran out of numbers!

Happy (early) New Year, all.

Fun fact: December 13th is St. Lucy's Day. I have no idea what that is, but apparently it involves cookies and candles.

It's also four days until the start of Saturnalia, the Ancient Roman's answer to Christmas. The more you know!

I can just about see Christmas on the horizon...and as much as I've loved being here, I can't wait to go home for a little bit.  I'm not gonna be home for too long though, it's just gonna be from December 22nd to the 4th of January. Just when things get super festive and just before they go away. Awesome...

So it's the 7-5-3 festival this weekend. Well, actually, it's on Tuesday, but it's not an official holiday so a lot of people celebrate on the weekend instead.  And for an unofficial holiday, people sure do dress up for it. I've got pictures of my sister and me when we celebrated it and even we didn't get all tarted up like the kids here. 'Course we were in the States so there's a difference, but still. And apparently, no one around here makes kimonos in a gothic kind of  style. Not that I'm surprised or anything.

I should say something- No. He has to figure this out for himself.  But- Didn't you hear what I said? Fine.

So it's almost Halloween, and this is gonna be my first Halloween here in Iyo. There's like, a party being thrown by one of the kids here and well, I'm gonna go. I think I'm too old for trick or treat. And besides, I don't even know if they say that here!

It's kinda weird to think that an Irish holiday has become so completely American, though...

Ever since I came over to work at the shrine, it seems like there's been a bunch of typhoons non stop. I think someone's trying to send me a message sometimes, but that someone needs to know that I'm probably going to be home by Christmas. And if they're not trying to send me a message, it sure as hell was a funny coincedence.

I think fall is starting to come in a little early. It's getting all sweater weather-y. Least that's what a couple of the senior citizens here have said to me. Seriously, when did being in this line of work get everyone to talk to me?

Gosh, am I exhausted. So many people came into the shrine today, and so many of them wanted to talk to me for some reason. Most of them were kids who'd just finished some big test or something and were coming in to ask for good results. One of them even gave me a green tea flavored kit-kat. It was...interesting. I like the chocolate ones better, but it was nice of her to give me that anyway.
